Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve – 2023 Edition

The Master Blender for Black Tot is a very clever chap called Oliver Chilton, who for this series has focussed on creating rums which echo the richer style of naval rums on which the Black Tot brand is based.

Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve 2023 is built on a foundation of Black Tot’s perpetual blend – a mixture of last year’s Master Blender’s Reserve and some of the original Black Tot navy rum. To this, Chilton added Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Grenada rum, creating a deliciously deep and nuanced rum with notes of orange, liquorice, toffee, baking spice and cherry.

Tasting notes from Black Tot:

Nose: Cooked blood orange studded with cloves blends with notes of ruby port and cinnamon

Palate: Initially flavours of liquorice sticks, toffee and cherry drops create a rich and full palate with orange marmalade cutting through.

Finish: Rum and raisin toffee and chocolate notes linger in the finish with hints at cinnamon and nutmeg. Disco
